About

Journey Wilderness Adventures is an outdoor education and adventure company that offers multi-day backpacking, biking, and boating experiences in some of China’s most beautiful, remote, and unexplored wilderness areas.

We began offering trips in the summer of 2010 in Xinjiang Province’s remote Tian Shan Mountain range. Today our backpacking, biking, and boating experiences take place all across China.  We’re proud of our bespoke backpacking locations from Beijing to Xinjiang, China’s most remote and westerly province. Our new multi-day boating trips take place on seldom-traveled rivers of unique character and topography. Our biking trips cross the plains of Inner Inner Mongolia and the tropical island of Hainan, in the south. We work with the best brands in the business to provide unique and meaningful wilderness experiences at a level not previously available in China.

At JWA, we know first hand the struggles Expats face in Asia’s crowded cities.  For this reason, in 2010 we began offering extended wilderness experiences that remove our participants from the distraction and commotion of everyday life in order to quiet the mind and revive the spirit. Two years later we began offering these same experiences to premier educational institutions in Asia. Today, we work with a select number of institutions and private groups to provide transformative experiences in China’s most unique and pristine wilderness environments.

In the fall of 2006, we offered our first camping trip in the mountains north of Beijing.  Four years later, after significant exploration, purpose, and thought, JWA launched it’s first extended wilderness backpacking program in Xinjiang Province’s Tian Shan mountains.  We were asked during those years why we choose the Tian Shan out of all of the mountains in China and our answer was simple, “because they’re the best backpacking mountains in China, and some of the best in the world.”  From the first summer of backpacking trips in the Tian Shan range in 2010 until today, we have continually explored China’s remote mountains and trails to find the best wilderness locations in China.

In 2012, we returned to Beijing to help International School of Beijing launch it’s Duke of Edinburgh Award program.  We found new backpacking and camping locations in the Beijing area, and helped them put together a trip for their students that is unmatched in the industry.  In 2015 we’re launching new biking and boating programs all across China. Each year we expand the number of programs we offer, while maintaining our commitment to excellence and personal growth that are foundational to our business.

Stay tuned and keep updated, as we have a lot more in store!
